
Women's Tennis Defeated At No. 54 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Women's tennis headed to Virginia for the Easter weekend hoping to pick up an ACC win, but dropped a 6-1 decision to the Hokies of Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the Eagles' eighth in a row and drops their overall record to 4-13 and 0-8 in conference play.
Virginia Tech recorded its first ACC win of the year with a 6-1 victory over the Eagles at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. The Hokies, ranked No. 54 nationally, improved to 11-10 overall and 1-7 in the ACC.
Tech swept the doubles matches to capture the first point of the day then took five of the six singles to record the victory.
After capturing the doubles point, the Hokies took a 2-0 lead as sophomore Abbey Walker downed Sarah Svobada, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 5 then picked up another point when senior Ashley James defeated Lauren Cash at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.
Virginia Tech clinched the dual match with a 6-4, 6-4, win at No. 6 by Bethan James as she defeated Brittany Delaney. The lone loss was at No. 1 as Lana Krasnopolsky earned a win against another ranked opponent - Inga Beermann, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4
