Women's Golf Wins Massachusetts Invitational

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's golf team won the Massachusetts State Golf Invitational this past weekend at the Orchards Course in South Hadley, Mass. The Eagles shot a combined score of 322 (+31), which was 30 strokes ahead of second-place Boston University.
Two Eagles, junior Katie Napleton and freshman Sarah Gogolak finished tied for first at 79 (+7). Gogolak edged Napleton in a playoff to win the event.
Fellow Eagle freshman Natalie Draganza finished one stroke behind the leaders with a third-place 80 (+8). Junior Lara Smilnak shot an 84 (+12) which tied her for sixth, while freshman Meghan Martinek shot an 86 (+14) which was good for eighth place.
In the end, the five Eagles golfers were all among the top eight finishers out of the 25-player field. It was a dominant performance by Boston College, overpowering local competition from BU, Amherst, Wellesley, and Mount Holyoke.
The Eagles will compete again May 10th, when they begin the NCAA Regional competition.
