CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College senior Kathrin Ress participated in her first official workout with the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, May 22. The Lynx opened their training camp on Sunday with the WNBA limit of 18 players on the training camp roster, with seven of the players being new to the team, including Ress.
The training sessions have not included last year's No. 1 Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) selection Seimone Augustus, and Katryna Gaither, who will arrive this week after completing their overseas commitments.
Ress has reported a number a new bumps and bruises but otherwise she is healthy and holding her own on the court.
According to the former BC center, the team schedule is a single session every other day and two-a-days in between. The two-a-day training sessions, of course, are the toughest with the morning session used for defensive strategy, offensive work or individual workouts. The second session the team has been scrimmaging men.
Ress, who was a second round selection by the Lynx in this year's draft, is the second Boston College player to join the Lynx. Amber Jacobs, who played at BC from 2000-2004, is the starting point guard for the Lynx.
The Lynx have 10 days of training camp with the 18 player roster. After 10 days the roster has to be cut to 15. The final 11-player active roster should be named on Friday, May 18, though the team may place two players on the inactive list.
The Lynx will open the 2007 WNBA season on Sunday, May 20 against the Sacramento Monarch at the Target Center (6 p.m.).
