Boston College women's rowing competed in the ACC Championship Regatta over the weekend on Lake Hartwell, S.C. The Eagles, who went into the regatta as the fifth seed, brought home their second-consecutive fifth place finish while senior Bridget Regan was selected to her second consecutive All-ACC squad.
University of Virginia swept titles in all four regatta events, winning the ACC championship for the eighth consecutive year. In the varsity four race, the Eagles finished in 8:10.3, behind fourth place Miami's 8:00.9 finish. The fifth place novice eight boat finished in 7:25.6, just edged by Duke's 7:22.5 finish.
The top BC boat at the championship event was the second varsity eight, which took the fourth spot in their race by finishing in 6:55.5 - a tenth of a second ahead of Miami.
In the regatta's final event, the varsity eight race, the Eagles were again narrowly edged for fourth place. Boston College finished in 6:41.7, just 1.5 seconds behind Miami's fourth place finish.
Boston College finished with 23 points in the final totals. The top four schools were Virginia with 60 points; Clemson with 46 points; Duke with 43 points; and Miami with 25 points.
Regan, a 2006-07 tri-captain, had the sixth seat on the Eagles varsity eight boat at the ACC Championships. Her second-straight All-ACC accolade caps an impressive career for the Milton, Mass. native. She participated in a national team development camp over the summer of 2006. Highlights from her BC career include ECAC Crew of the Week honors in 2006, and medals at the 2007 Knecht Cup and the 2004 and 2006 Jesuit Invitational.
The Eagles have two more races on the schedule: the inaugural rowing Beanpot on the Charles River on April 28, and the EAWRC Championships in Camden, N.J. on May 13.
