Women's Lacrosse Downed By Cavs, 13-6

Newton, Mass.--A Virginia eight-goal run to end the first half and open the second half did the Eagles in as UVa defeated women's lacrosse, 13-6, Saturday afternoon at the Newton Campus Complex. Boston College finished 1-4 in ACC play and is 5-9 overall going into the ACC Championships.
The Eagles will play an ACC quarterfinal game Thursday, April 26 on the campus of UNC. Boston College will then finish up its regular season on Wednesday, May 2 at Dartmouth and on Saturday, May 5 when it hosts Brown on Senior Day.
Senior Elizabeth Kadison and freshman Lauren Costello each paced the Eagles with two goals each. Junior Rachel Tinquist and sophomore Margot Spatola each chipped in with one goal.
For most of the first half, the game was closely contested. The Cavaliers pulled out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Eagles came back to tie the game twice at 2-2 and 3-3. At 10:20, Kate Breslin notched Virginia's fourth goal and first in an eight-game run. Brittany Kalkstein and Jess Wasilewski finished the first period's scoring for UVa's 6-3 halftime lead.
Virginia kept their momentum in the second half and reeled off five more consecutive goals in the frame's first 14 minutes. Tinquist broke the momentum with a goal off a free position shot. For the final 11 minutes, both teams traded a pair of goals for the 13-6 final. Three of Boston College's six goals came from eight meters.
UVa outshot Boston College, 35-19, and sophomore Katie Monaghan stopped 11 shots in goal. Kendall McBrearty, who started for the Cavs, and Sara Hairfield combined for eight saves on the other end of the field.
The Eagles edged the Cavs in draw controls, 11-10, and held Virginia to just 1-for-8 on the free position shots. Boston College went 3-for-5 on free position shots.
