COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Baseball took the field for game two hoping to get the pitching results they did in game one but fell short as Maryland staged a late inning comeback for a 7-4 game two win. The loss drops the Eagles' overall record to 11-21-1 and 5-12 in ACC play.
BC picked up its fifth ACC win earlier this afternoon as they defeated the Terps 5-3 on the back of senior starter Kevin Boggan who pitched 8.0 innings, allowing only one earned run on two hits.
Maryland would get on the board first as they would benefit from a walk and hit batsman and score despite not collecting a hit.
The Eagles would claim the lead in the top of the next frame as they would score twice on four hits, taking a 2-1 lead. BC would add a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to hold a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
After starter Kevin Boggan left the game, the Terps were able to get to BC reliever Geoff Oxley for two runs on three hits but Terry Doyle would come in for Oxley and slam the door on Maryland, giving the Eagles the 5-3 victory.
Game two would see the Eagles take the early lead as they would cross the plate twice in the bottom of the first. After a Ryan Hutchinson groundout, Michael Belfiore and Tony Sanchez would collect back to back hits, and Eric Campbell would reach on an error, giving BC the 2-0 lead.
BC would tack on a run in the top of the third but the Terps would tie things up in the bottom of the frame as they would get to starter Nate Jeanes for three runs on four hits, tying things at 3-3.
The Eagles would take the lead right back in the top of the fifth. Tony Sanchez would lead the inning off with a double to right field and score the very next batter as Eric Campbell would single to right, making it 4-3.
The score would stay the same until the bottom of the eighth when Maryland would unload for four runs on five hits and take control of the night cap. The Terps would begin the inning homering off of BC reliever Terry Doyle to tie the game at 4-4. The damage would continue as the next four batters would reach base giving the Terps a comfortable ninth inning cushion.
Ryan Hutchinson would single to start the ninth but that would be it as Maryland would retire the next three batters to salvage game two of the doubleheader.
The two squads conclude the series Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 1:00 p.m.
