WASHINGTON, D.C. - Volleyball headed south to the nation's capital over Easter weekend to compete in their annual spring tournament which was held in Washington, D.C. and hosted by George Washington University.
Others schools competing included Navy, Maryland, Long Island University, Pittsburgh, Penn State, and host school George Washington. Although BC did not compete against everyone, they earned the respect of national powerhouse Penn State. The Nittany Lions reached the elite eight in last fall's NCAA tournament and were ranked in the top 25 throughout the year.
"The highlight of the weekend was playing against Penn State, a very talented team who made it to the elite eight of the NCAA's last fall. BC earned quite a bit of respect after that match. We hung tight and learned that we can play with the best! The tournament was an invaluable experience being that it is my last spring season," commented Eagle junior Abigail Hasebroock.
"This trip to D.C. was great not only for the team bonding and educational value to each of the student athletes, but also on a competitive scale. We had the opportunity to play some very high level competitive teams and it allowed us to get one step closer to our goal. Playing Penn State was an incredible experience for our team," added head coach Andrea Leonard.
"The entire tournament was a first class event, beginning with a great match vs. George Washington, and continuing with Pittsburgh and Navy. I only wish we had more time to continue with that level of play."
The Eagles will host the Boston College Spring Tournament, Saturday, April 14 which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Other schools competing include Harvard, Northeastern, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
BC will open up play against Harvard beginning at 9:30 a.m.
