
Women's Tennis Falls At No. 17 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Women's tennis headed to North Carolina looking to pick up their first ACC win, but dropped a 6-1 decision to 17th-ranked Wake Forest University yesterday afternoon. The loss is the Eagles' fifth in a row and drops their overall record to 4-10 and 0-6 in conference play. The Demon Deacons improve to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in ACC action.
Wake Forest would quickly clinch the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Brittany Delaney and Alina Sullivan fell, 8-3 to Sasha Kulikova and Ana Jerman while Gia Nafarrete and Lana Krasnopolsky dropped an 8-4 decision to Christine Simpson and Sierra Poske. Dasha Cherkasov and Lauren Cash would outlast Alexandra Hirsch and Ashlee Davis at No. 1, 6-4.
On the singles side, Wake Forest would control play, winning the first set in all six singles matches. Lauren Cash fell to Ana Jerman 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 while Christine Simpson blanked Brittany Delaney, 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth position.
After leading most of the first set, Dasha Cherkasov would surrender the set 7-5 to Sasha Kulikova and fall 6-1 in the second set, giving the Deacons another point. BC's lone point came at No. 1 singles where Lana Krasnopolsky defeated No. 103 Ashlee Davis 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.
The Eagles are quickly back in action as they take on North Carolina State today at 12:00 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.
