Jared Dudley Earns ACC Player Of The Year Honors

Boston College senior Jared Dudley earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year honors, according to an announcement made by the Associated Press in conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
Dudley is the third player in program history to capture league player of the year accolades. Guard John Bagley earned Big East Player of the Year honors (as a sophomore) in 1980-81. Guard Troy Bell twice gained Big East Player of the Year honors. As a sophomore in 2000-01, Bell shared the award with Notre Dame's Troy Murphy. He then earned the honor again - alone - two years later.
Dudley received 45 votes for player of the year. Florida State's Al Thornton received 30 votes, North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough received 19 votes, and Virginia's Sean Singletary received 12 votes.
Yesterday, Dudley was selected to the All-ACC first team. He was joined on that team by Hansbrough, Thornton, Singletary and Virginia Tech's Zabian Dowdell.
Dudley, Hansbrough and Thornton were unanimous first-team selections.
The senior forward also gained District I Player of the Year honors from the US Basketball Writers Association.
Dudley averaged 19.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in league action. He led all ACC players in minutes played, averaging 38.88 minutes per league game. The San Diego, Calif., resident also ranked among league leaders in: field-goal percentage (second), defensive rebounding (second), rebounding (third), scoring (fifth) and offensive rebounding (sixth).
Other ACC individual award winners were Jamon Gordon (Virginia Tech; Defensive Player of the Year), Brandan Wright (North Carolina; Rookie of the Year) and Dave Leitao (Virginia; Coach of the Year).
Boston College (19-10, 10-6 ACC) returns to action on Friday, March 9 against either Maryland or Miami in the ACC Tournament's quarterfinal round. Game time is 2:30 p.m. in the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla.
