BOCA RATON, Fla. - Baseball looked to get back on the winning track after a tough 15-3 loss to FAU yesterday, but dropped a tough 7-6 decision to the University of Pennsylvania this afternoon when junior Kyle Armeny hit a walk off home run off of BC closer Dan Houston. The one run loss is the Eagles' fourth of the season, and drops their overall record to 1-5. Penn improves to 2-2 with the win.
The Eagles would get on the board first, taking advantage of a Quakers error in the top of the second inning, giving them a 1-0 lead. BC would increase their lead the very next inning, scoring three times on three hits. The Eagles would put their first three runners on base as both Johnny Ayers and Ryan Hutchinson singled, and Jared McGuire walked. After a double by Eric Campbell, BC held a 4-0 lead.
Penn would charge back though, scoring two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth, off of starter Nick Asselin, to take a 6-4 lead. After BC put their first two batters on in the top of the seventh, Penn brought in reliever Reid Terry.
Terry would get the first out on a sacrifice bunt, but then hit Michael Belfiore to load the bases. With two outs in the inning, Johnny Ayers hit a ground ball up the middle that looked to be a routine play, but the ball took a bad hop, allowing to runs two score and BC to tie the game at 6-6. The game remained tied until Armeny's walk-off in the bottom of the ninth.
The Eagles will look to bounce back tomorrow when they take on Florida International University at 7:00 p.m. in Miami, Fla.
