Baseball Suffers Tough Loss in Home Opener

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After two consecutive non-conference wins, baseball opened their ACC home schedule this afternoon, but dropped a 24-4 decision to the North Carolina State Wolfpack at Shea Field. The loss drops the Eagles' overall record to 8-12-1 and 4-6 in conference play. NC State improves to 19-8 overall and 6-4 in ACC action.
With the game scoreless heading into the top of the fourth inning, NC State would put up their first of many runs, as they got to BC starter Kevin Boggan for two runs on three hits, giving them an early 2-0 lead. The Eagles answered right away in the bottom of the next frame. After a Jared McGuire single, Tony Sanchez and Eric Campbell would both double, tying the game at 2-2.
This would be as close as the Eagles would get as the Wolfpack exploded for 15 runs on 13 hits over the next two innings cruising to a 24-4 victory. NC state would collect 24 hits in all as they worked their way through the Eagles' bullpen.
BC starter Kevin Boggan pitched well through the first four innings allowing only two runs on five hits but would unravel in the fifth, giving up 10 runs on seven hits, including a grand slam to designated hitter Mike Roskopf. Wolfpack starter Eric Surkamp pitched well going six innings and allowing only two runs on four hits.
The Eagles and Wolfpack will play game two of the series tomorrow afternoon at Shea Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
