Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Two Boston College women's hockey freshman forwards-- Kelli Stack of Brooklyn Heights, Ohio and Allie Thunstrom of Maplewood, Minn.--were selected to the 2006-07 New England Hockey Writers Division I Women's All-Star Team as announced on Wednesday. Eagle head coach Tom Mutch was named the New England Coach of the Year. All the award winners will be honored at the hockey writers' annual banquet on Wednesday, April 11.
Stack led Boston College with 54 points on the strength of 17 goals and 37 assists. She was ninth in the nation with 1.50 points per game and third among rookies. Stack was the first Eagle since Erin Magee '99 to score at least 54 points and now sits third in the school record book for points in a season and first for assists in a season. The forward was the first player in Hockey East history to garner both the Player and Rookie of the Year honors.
Thunstrom paced the Eagles with 30 goals this season, which is good for a second-place tie in Division I. She finished the season with 47 points, including her 30 goals and 17 assists. Six of her goals came while short-handed, which ties her with Mercyhurst's Meghan Agosta for tops in the country. The Minnesotan was fifth in the nation in rookie scoring with 1.31 points per game. Thunstrom earned first-team Hockey East All-Star and All-Rookie team honors.
Mutch coached Boston College to a program-best 24-10-2 record in his fourth year with the Eagles. He brought in what could be considered the nation's top recruiting class of 2006-07 with Stack, Thunstrom and rookie goalie Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) leading the group of the freshmen. Mutch received the Hockey East Coach of the Year award and is a finalist for the AHCA Division I Women's Coach of the Year Award.
