TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Less than 24 hours after falling to top-ranked Florida State for the second time, the Eagles and Seminoles took the field again, and BC dropped a 7-0 decison this afternoon handing them their third loss in as many days. The loss drops the Eagles' overall record to 6-11-1 and 4-5 in conference play, dropping them below .500 for the first time.
Once again, the No. 1 Seminoles would get strong pitching as starter Ryan Strauss carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning picking up his sixth win. Strauss allowed only two hits while striking out four.
Junior center fielder Dennis Guinn had an immense weekend for Florida State collecting six extra base hits in the series, four of which were doubles. Guinn reached base all five times on Sunday and slugged 1.600 for the weekend and batted .700 on top of knocking in four RBIs.
The Eagles, unfortunately, could not muster any offense off of the tough Seminole staff as they collected just two hits on the day - two singles in the top half of the seventh.
FSU got off to a quick start as junior Mark Hallberg recorded a one-out base hit in the bottom of the first inning and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch by BC starter Nick Asselin. Junior Jack Rye then put the Seminoles on top with his fourth homerun of the season. Guinn followed with his first triple of the season, a deep shot off the fence in right, giving the 'Noles all of the offense they would need.
The Eagles will look to get back on the winning track as they are quickly back in action on Tuesday, March 27 at 3:00 p.m. when they take on the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn.
