Three More Top-Three Intersectional Finishes; 7th Intersectional Victory of the Year
The Eagles returned to intercollegiate competition two weeks ago in St. Petersburg, Florida. The coed team returned to action at the Eckerd Intersectional, where Parker Dwyer '09/Allie Nagle '09 won A division comfortably. Spencer Powers '07/Brooke Dow '07 had a bit of trouble getting 'back in the groove' and finished 3rd in B division and the Eagles finished a respectable 2nd overall. Across town at U. South Florida, the women's team finished 3rd at the USF Women's Intersectional with Martha Pitt '09/Lily Beck '09 and Becky Mergenthaler '07/Mallory Fontenot '08 sailing A and B divisions, respectively. Mergenthaler/Fontenot had an impressive second day of the event, winning two of seven races and turning in the low-point B division score on Sunday.
The Eckerd and USF events kicked of BC's spring break training at the University of South Florida. After a week of double sessions, the coed team returned to action at the Mendelblatt Team Race. Juniors Reed Johnson/Julie Howe teamed up with Brian Kamilar '09/Andrew Schneider '09 and Adam Roberts '09/Alyson Whitehead '07 to capture the Eagles' 7th Intersectional victory and first team racing Intersectional victory of 2006-2007. The regatta came down to a sail-off with NEISA's fastest up-and-coming squad, the Roger Williams Hawks. BC dominated the sail-off race from the start and won with a comfortable 1-2 finish.
Last weekend's wintry weather grounded the high flying Eagles. Flights to Navy for the Truxt and to St. Mary's for their Women's Intersectional were all cancelled, and BC had to sit out these two events. In conference competition, Jay Connolly '07 and Erin Morley '07 led the team to victory at the Veitor Trophy with a strong A division victory while Alan Frith '08 and Carrie Amarante '09 sailed solidly in B division to seal the victory.
The Eagles look to continue their winning ways this weekend in Intersectional competition at Navy, ODU, MIT, and Roger Williams.
