Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Freshman Molly Schaus received the only Hockey East award doled out on the women's side this week. Schaus, a native of Natick, Massachusetts, earned the TPS Player of the Week after making 47 saves in a 4-3 double overtime loss to the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA semifinals last Friday night.
Friday night was the third multiple overtime game this season for Schaus. She made 73 saves against Harvard over three extra sessions in the Beanpot semifinal on February 6, and she stopped 45 to defeat Dartmouth in the NCAA quarterfinals on March 10. Schaus broke the school's season saves record by topping Lisa Davis' 859 saves in 2001-02 with 866 saves of her own this season.
Schaus finished the season among the nation's top ten in save percentage (fifth) and goals against average (10th). The rookie compiled a 20-10-2 record, including five shutouts. Schaus received All-USCHO Rookie Team honors last Thursday night, and earned Hockey East Second Team and All-Rookie Team accolades earlier this season.
Boston College finished with a 24-10-2 record, the program's best record ever in the 13-year history of women's ice hockey at the Heights. The Eagles made their first appearances in both the NCAA Tournament and the NCAA Frozen Four.
