Lake Placid, N.Y.--On the eve of Boston College's first-ever Frozen Four appearance, the Eagles received several national awards. Freshmen Kelli Stack and Molly Schaus were selected to the All-USCHO Rookie Team, while Head Coach Tom Mutch was named a finalist of the American Hockey Coaches Association National Coach of the Year.
Stack, who was also selected for the All-USCHO Third Team and is a Brooklyn Height, Ohio native, leads the Eagles in scoring with 17 goals, 37 assists and 54 points. She has already compiled three points in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, notching three assists in last week's 3-2 double overtime win over Dartmouth in the quarterfinal round.
Natick, Massachusetts native Schaus has been the Eagles' go-to goaltender all season long. Schaus has a 20-9-2 record in her rookie campaign and her .932 save percentage is sixth in the country. Earlier in 2007, she set a new NCAA record for saves in a game with 73 in the Beanpot semifinal against Harvard.
Coach Mutch received the Hockey East Coach of the Year Award earlier this season and is now one of seven finalists for this year's AHCA Division I Coach of the Year Award. All the coaches who have either led their team to the Frozen Four or were recognized as their league's top coach are named finalists for the honor. The winner will be announced at the AHCA Coach of the Year Banquet on Saturday, April 28 in Naples, Florida. Wisconsin coach Mark Johnson won the award in 2006.
