CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Men's tennis headed across town to Cambridge looking to get back on the winning track, but dropped a 7-0 decision to second-ranked Virginia last night at the Murr Center at Harvard University. The loss is the Eagles' fourth in a row and drops their overall record to 4-9 and 0-2 in conference play. With the win, Virginia improves to 13-1 and 2-0 in ACC action.
The Eagles would provide strong efforts in doubles but could not break through as the Cavs would take all three matches. Eagles coach Scott Wilkins would mix up the doubles lineups but it wasn't enough as Thomas Nolan and Jason Sechrist would fall to the nation's third-ranked doubles tandem of Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey, 8-4. BC would drop the number two and three positions by the same score.
On the singles side, BC would again get some fine efforts but could not string consecutive sets together. Senior Soma Kesthely would push second-ranked Somdev Devvarman to 4-4 in the first set but could not capitalize as he fell 6-4, 6-1. Jason Sechrist also would take 15th-ranked Treat Huey to 5-5 in their second set before falling, 6-1, 7-5. Virginia would not drop a set to the Eagles en route to the victory.
BC is back in action on Saturday, March 17 when they take on the University of Maryland at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass. at 6:00 p.m.
