Boyle, Gerbe Earn All-Hockey East Honors

Boston College senior Brian Boyle gained All-Hockey East first-team recognition and sophomore Nathan Gerbe earned All-Conference second-team accolades, according to an announcement made at the league's annual pre-tournament banquet at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge.
In addition, senior Joe Rooney captured the league's Best Defensive Forward Award.
Boyle, the conference's scoring champion, was joined on the first team by Maine's Michel Leveille, New Hampshire's Trevor Smith, and Boston University's Matt Gilroy, Sean Sullivan and goalie John Curry. Boyle earned All-Hockey East first-team honors last winter.
Gerbe was joined on the second team by Boston University's Pete MacArthur, Maine's Josh Soares and Mike Lundin, New Hampshire's Chris Murray and goaltender Jon Quick of Massachusetts.
Boyle registered 37 points - 13 goals and 24 assists - in conference play. He led all Hockey East players in points and assists. The Hingham, Mass., resident also ranked fifth in goals. Boyle registered at least one point in 17-of-27 conference contests and tallied 12 multiple-point games.
Gerbe recorded 28 points - 16 goals and 12 assists - in 26 Hockey East games. He finished the conference regular-season tied for first among all Hockey East players in goals and game-winning goals (four). He also ranked second among league leaders in power-play goals with five. The Oxford, Mich., resident tallied at least one point in 20-of-26 league games.
Rooney is the second BC player to capture the league's top defensive forward award. He joins Mike Lephart, who earned the honor in 2001. Rooney registered 26 points on nine goals and 16 assists in Hockey East play. The Canton, Mass., native also tallied a plus-12 rating in conference action.
Boston College returns to action on Friday, March 16 against Boston University in the Hockey East Tournament's semifinal round. Game time is 8 p.m. in Boston's TD Banknorth Garden.
