Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Women's Hockey East recognized three Boston College players with weekly honors for their performances in Saturday's NCAA quarterfinal game. Sophomore Meghan Fardelmann (Lansing, Kan.) received Player of the Week, freshman Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Oh.) was named Rookie of the Week and freshman goalie Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) took home Defensive Player of the Week.
The Eagles (24-9-2) advanced to their first-ever NCAA Frozen Four in Lake Placid, N.Y. by defeating Dartmouth College, 3-2, in double overtime on Saturday evening in Thompson Arena. Boston College will play semifinal #2 against the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Friday, March 16 at 8:00 p.m.
Fardelmann scored BC's first goal of the game against Dartmouth at 1:11 of the first period. She also came back at 4:20 into the second overtime period to put back a rebound for the game-winning goal to send the Eagles to the Frozen Four. Fardelmann now has 23 goals on the season, good for second on the team.
Stack, the Hockey East Player of the Year, had a hand in each of the three goals on Saturday, including classmate Allie Thunstrom's shorthanded goal in the second period. Stack and Thunstrom took the puck up ice and set-up the play with a give-and-go that faked out the Big Green goalie. Stack has a team-high 37 assists on the season.
Schaus put up big numbers as she has all season, especially during tight games. Schaus stopped 45 shots in the 84:20 of play, including 15 saves in the first overtime period. The only two goals that beat the Natick native were two power play goals in the third period. Schaus improved her record to 20-9-2 for the year.
