WEYMOUTH, Mass. - Women's tennis returned home from Las Vegas looking to build on their win over San Diego, but dropped a 7-0 decision to the eighth-ranked Clemson Tigers last night at the Weymouth Club. The loss drops the Eagles' overall record to 4-6 and 0-2 in conference play. The Tigers improved to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in ACC action.
Clemson would quickly earn the doubles point as the nation's 12th-ranked tandem of Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem, made quick work of Dasha Cherkasov and Alina Sullivan, 8-1. The Tigers' Ina Hadziselimovic and Estefania Balda then won at the second slot, 8-3, over Lauren Cash and Brittany Delaney to clinch the doubles point for Clemson.
Clemson proceeded to sweep all six singles matches, winning five in straight sets. #47 Ani Mijacika, defeated Lana Krasnopolsky, 6-4, 6-1 at the number one position, while #63 Estefania Balda defeated Dasha Cherkasov at the number two position, 7-5, 6-1. Sophomore Lauren Cash was the only Eagle to win a set but could not capitalize as she fell 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to Ina Hadziselimovic.
The Eagles are quickly back in action when they take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets tomorrow morning at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass. at 10:00 a.m.
