GREENSBORO, N.C. - Thirty-two student-athletes, including 11 from last year's inaugural team, have been selected to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Volleyball Team as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Among the squad, seniors Allison Anderson and Dorota Niemczewska.
For Anderson, it is her second year being named, while it is Niemczewska's first time being honored. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Duke led all schools with six academic selections, followed by Virginia with four. Six schools (Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia Tech) received three nods apiece, while Clemson picked up two. Maryland, NC State and Wake Forest each placed one student-athlete on the team.
All-conference performers joining Duke's Hausfeld and Moss on the academic team, include Boston College's Allison Anderson, Duke's Tealle Hunkus, Georgia Tech's Ulrike Stegemann, Miami's Ciara Michel, Virginia's Emily and Sarah Kirkwood, Virginia Tech's Katie Esbrook and Wake Forest's Natalie Mullikin.
Fifteen of the 32-member academic unit also collected national and regional citations in 2006. Boston College's Anderson, Duke's Hausfeld and Hunkus, Georgia Tech's Stegemann, Virginia's Emily Kirkwood and Virginia Tech's Esbrook were recognized AVCA All-America honorable mention and AVCA All-East Region. Duke's Moss also picked up AVCA Freshman of the Year accolades in the East Region.
