Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Freshman Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) received the final Rookie of the Month award of the season as announced by Women's Hockey East Thursday afternoon. Along with going 5-2-0 for the month, Schaus set a new NCAA record for single game saves when she stopped 73 Harvard shots on February 6 in the triple overtime Beanpot semifinal.
Schaus' NCAA record still fell one save short of the school mark of 74 set by Christy Nentwig on February 22, 1997 against Northeastern.
Schaus registered her fifth season shutout in the regular season finale against Maine. She made 25 or more saves in five of the seven games played last month, including 38- and 34-save efforts against UNH and Providence, respectively. The rookie finished February with a .944 save percentage and 1.78 goals against average.
This is the second time this season that Women's Hockey East has honored Schaus with the Rookie of the Month. Schaus also earned Rookie of the Month for October.
The Eagles will next face Providence in the Hockey East semifinals at UNH's Whittemore Center on Saturday, March 3 at 3:00 p.m.
