Track and Field was in action over the weekend, competing in the Giegengack Invitational at Yale University. Junior Tiana Riel led the women's team with a victory in the 60m hurdles. Riel bested the field with a time of 8.84 seconds. Her mark qualifies her for the ECACs and is good for the second fastest time in school history. Teammate Katherine Sherman ('09) was impressive as well, taking fourth in the race. Riel was also solid in the triple jump event, finishing fourth overall with a distance of 11.21m, the fourth best in school history.
In other action, the women's distance medley relay took second, qualifying for the ECACs in the process. Freshmen Jessica Driscoll (1200m) and Caitlin Bailey (800m) combined with sophomore Nichole Lister (1600m) and senior Kasey Hill (400m) for a time of 11:34.47. In the 500m event, Alison Fogerty ('08) finished sixth.
On the men's side, a number of runners qualified for the IC4A postseason competition. Joshua Springer ('08) was the most successful Eagle, finishing fourth in the 1000m event, running a personal-best time that falls just outside the top-ten in school history. Also in the 1000m, sophomores James LaGreca and Brendan Collins finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Both turned in personal-bests as well, and will join Springer at the IC4As.
Elsewhere this weekend, the men's 4x800m relay team took part in the Millrose Games in New York City. Though they ended up finishing in fifth place of a seven team field, the Eagles ran in the top three for much of the race. Of the four runners in the relay, senior captain Daniel LaFave had the fastest time (1:54).
This afternoon, the Track and Field team will head up the road to compete in the BU 5-Way against Providence, MIT, Northeastern, and BU.
