CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After nearly two weeks off, men's tennis was back in action yesterday as they hosted a doubleheader and defeated Buffalo University 4-2 and Fairfield University 7-0 at the Flynn Recreation Complex. With the wins, the Eagles improve to 4-5 overall.
The Eagles would drop the doubles point, losing two of the three matches. The No. 1 team of Kesthely and Wagner battled, but would drop an 8-5 decision to the tandem of Hadisubroto and Kolomytes. However, BC's number two duo of Sechrist and Nolan had better results, winning 8-1 over Singh-Panthlia and Stane.
On the singles side, senior Soma Kesthely struggled but held on for a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 decision at the No. 1 position. Junior Jason Sechrist also battled for a hard fought 7-5, 7-6 win over the Bulls' Singh Panthlia. Freshman Thomas Nolan and sophomore Alex Rastorgoev would both pick up wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, sealing the victory for BC.
In the day's second match, Fairfield proved no match for the Eagles as they would sweep the Stags 7-0. Jason Sechrist would earn a win at No. 1 singles and Chestnut Hill's Geoff Mueller would easily handle Glen Gannon, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. The Eagles would sweep both singles and doubles for their second win of the day.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, March 2, when they take on No.3 Virginia at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
