Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Freshmen Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Oh.) and Allie Thunstrom (Maplewood, Minn.) earned Hockey East's Player of the Month and Co-Rookie of the Month, respectively, as announced by the league Friday afternoon. Rookie netminder Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) was named an honorable mention for the Goaltender of the Month. The three underclassmen led the ninth-ranked Eagles (18-6-2, 12-4-0) to a 7-1-1 record in January and the top spot atop the Hockey East standings.
Stack tallied at least one point in each of January's nine games, including six multi-point games. The Ohio native put together 7-12--19 totals and leads the league in points (37) and assists (26). Her seven goals on 40 shots on goal during the month included one gamewinner, two unassisted tallies and three power play scores. Stack finished the month with a plus-10 rating.
Thunstrom, with eight goals and seven assists last month, also put together solid numbers in the last nine games. She averaged 1.67 points per game and built her goal total to a league-leading 21 tallies. The freshman from Minnesota registered two goals and two assists at home against Boston University on January 20 for a career-high four-point game. Thunstrom shares the Rookie of the Month honor with Boston University goalie Melissa Haber.
Schaus recorded a 1.15 goals against average and .950 save percentage in January. The Deerfield Academy alum shutout Clarkson, Boston University and Maine, and stopped 28 shots against then-sixth-ranked St. Lawrence at Conte Forum on January 5.
The Eagles travel to the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tilt with the University of New Hampshire. Boston College will host the 29th Annual Women's Beanpot Tournament Tuesday evening, capping off the first round doubleheader with an 8:00 p.m. face-off against Harvard.
