Women Run Strong At Valentine's Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - The women's track and field turned in another solid performance at BU's Valentine's Invitational over the weekend. Junior Alison Fogarty took first place in the 500m dash with a time of 1:15.30. Fogarty edged a BU runner by one one-hundredth of a second. Also victorious was freshman Caitlin Bailey, who won the 800m run with a time of 2:08.32. Her time places her third in school history.
In the 1000m run, junior Jennifer Heyde took third overall with a time of 2:55.39. In the 3000m run, which featured a field of 120 runners, BC placed four runners in the top 20. Kristen Coon finished 11th overall, with BC's best time, at 9:39.21. Coon was followed by sophomore Nichole Lister (14th), senior Jessica Flinn (15th), and senior Laurel Burdick (17th).
Another highlight for the Eagles came in the 55m hurdles, and event that has become a strong point for the women. Katherine Sherman ('09), Kasey Hill ('07), and Tiana Riel ('08) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. Sherman's time (8.18 seconds) is good for third on the school's all-time list. Riel's time (8.27s) ties her for fourth all-time. Hill is already the owner of the school's second-fastest time.
Hill and Riel also performed exceptionally well in the long jump competition. Hill finished second overall with a leap of 5.71m (18'09"00) that is good for fourth on the school's all-time list. Riel, who owns the fifth-longest leap in school history, finished sixth overall with a jump of 5.38m (17'08"00).
In the mile run, freshman Jessica Driscoll finished sixth overall, out of a field of 100. Also, in the shot put, freshman Rosemary Guerin took 11th with a throw of 12.39m (40'07"75). Guerin's throw places her third on BC's all-time list.
The women will compete next at the ACC Championships at Clemson University from February 22-25.
