
Women's Basketball Tops Maine, 68-56

Boston College was down three points to the University of Maine, 36-33, at halftime; but rallied in the second half for a 68-56 point win at Conte Forum in a non-conference game. The Eagles improve their record to 9-3 behind freshman Carolyn Swords third double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) of her collegiate career while the Black Bears fall to 2-9.
The Eagles jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes behind six points from Stefanie Murphy and four from Victoria Jones. The Black Bears slowly chipped away at the Eagles and at 8:15 in the half, took the lead on a jumper by Colleen Kilmurray. Maine took a 36-33 lead into the locker room behind guard Tanna Ross who had 14 first half points by shooting 4-for-5 from the three-point arc. For BC, Swords and Murphy combed for 15 points and 14 rebounds in the half.
Boston College's defense improved in the second half and the offense followed as the Eagles tied the game on a lay-up by Swords at 16:41 and her foul shot. Swords foul shot gave BC a 40-39 lead that the Eagles would never relinquish. A three-pointer from sophomore Ayla Brown at 12:45 gave BC a 10-point lead and it increased to 20 points at 4:34 when Mickel Picco (eight points) nailed a three from the corner.
The Eagles were led offensively by Murphy with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Swords added her 10 points along with four steals. Brown finished with 11 points and four assists while Brittanny Johnson had nine points. Maine was led by Ross with 17 points and Emily Rousseau added 11 points.
The Eagles return to action on December 28 when they play Colgate at Conte Forum (2 p.m.) while the Black Bears travel to Coral Gables, Florida for the Hurricane Holiday Classic tournament on December 29-30.
