Women's Basketball Defeats Wagner, 75-54

Freshmen Stefanie Murphy and Carolyn Swords combined for 48 points and 16 rebounds to lead Boston College past Wagner, 75-54, in the first round of the Mildred & Roger L. White Invitational on Friday night. The Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season, while Wagner is now 2-3.
Murphy led the Eagles with her career-high 28 points and seven rebounds, while Swords added 20 points and 10 rebounds, recording her first career double-double. Junior Brittanny Johnson added nine points, seven rebounds and four assists in the Eagles victory.
Wagner was led Andrea Reed and Ashley Olsen with 14 points apiece.
The Eagles led 18-0 before Wagner scored at 9:54 to play. Murphy scored 15 of the first 18 points, while Swords had the other three points in the run. The Eagles shot 45 percent from the field and took a 29-14 lead at the half.
Murphy and Swords continued to dominate the inside as they combined for 28 of the Eagles 46 second half points. BC went up 40-14 just three minutes into the half behind Murphy as she notched nine of the Eagles first 11 points. Wagner cut the lead to 13 points at 7:33 to play when Andrea Reed hit two foul shots. BC then pounded the ball down low as Swords scored 11 of her points in the final seven minutes of action.
Boston College did shoot 56 percent from the field in the second half and 51 percent for the game, while Wagner shot 28 percent.
Game Notes:
The two teams combined for 51 fouls, five less than the NCAA record ... Swords recorded her first double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) ... Ayla Brown was second on the team in rebounding with nine. It is the fifth consecutive game the Eagles have out-rebounded their opponent ... BC committed 27 turnovers.
