Volleyball Comes Back Against Virginia Tech, 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - A block by Abigail Hasebroock followed by a service ace by Brittany Pierpont gave the Boston College volleyball team a 20-18 win in game-five and picked up a come-from-behind victory against the Virginia Tech Hokies, 3-2, Friday night at Power Gymnasium.
The score seesawed back and forth in game-five, with a total of 11 ties and four match point opportunities, three of which were for the Eagles. After Hasebroock gave the Eagles the 19-18 lead on one of her eight blocks on the evening, Pierpont delivered a powerful serve to the right side of the court that the Virginia Tech squad could not handle. The service ace earned the Eagles the victory, 20-18, and improved their home record to 10-2 at Power Gymnasium this season.
The come from behind victory marks the third time this season that BC trailed 2-0 at home and rallied to win the match, 3-2.
Virginia Tech edged the Eagles in game-one, 30-25, and game-two, 31-29. After intermission, BC evened the match winning game-three, 30-25 and game-four, 30-27.
Kelsey Johnson recorded a double-double, totaling a match-high 24 kills and added 14 digs. With the 24 kills, Johnson only needs eight kills to surpass Deanna Herman's all-time BC career kills record of 1,402.
Pierpont also contributed a double-double, tallying 40 assists and tying for team-high honors in digs with 18. Cathy Quilico (18) and Kristin Whalley (11) each totaled double digit dig performances against the Hokies.
The win improves the Eagles to 7-12 in the ACC, 13-16 overall. The loss drops Virginia Tech to 7-12 in the ACC, 13-16 overall.
BC hosts the Virginia Cavaliers tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Power Gymansium.
