CHESTNUT HILL, MA -
Sophomore Ayla Brown notched 21 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Boston College past Athletes in Action, 68-53, in an exhibition game at Conte Forum.
The Eagles used a 10-2 run in the first half, sparked by an eight point run by Brown, to go up14-13 early in the half. Boston College proceeded to outscore AIA, 17-2, and extended their lead to 31-15, with 2:31 to play.
Athletes in Action closed the gap, 54-46, with just over five minutes to play on a lay up by Tia Jackson. BC pushed the lead back up to 13 points two minutes later on three free throws from freshman Jaclyn Thoman (eight points, six assists) and a lay in by Brown.
For a young Eagles team the exhibition proved to be a good challenge for the players. Junior Brittanny Johnson, who missed last season with an ACL tear, played 20 minutes and had 12 points. Freshman Carolyn Swords had eight points and nine rebounds, while freshman Stefanie Murphy had six points and 10 rebounds.
Athletes in Action was led by Erika Valek with 18 points and six rebounds, while Jackson had 10 points and five rebounds.
The Eagles will open the 2007-08 season against Wright State on Friday, November 9 at Conte Forum (1 p.m.) in a non-conference game.
