Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The men and women's cross country teams finished their regular season and spent the last two weeks readying for the ACC championships hosted by Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 27.
This year's championship marks the 54th annual race for the men and the 30th annual race for the women. Last year, both the men and women placed seventh out of 12. Mallory Champa led the women with a 12th place finish, running the course in 21:37. Team captain Patrick Mellea also finished 12th, leading the men with a time of 24:41.
"Our stated goal at the beginning of the year was for the women to place in the top four and for the men to place in the top six," Head Coach Randy Thomas said. "The men have been steadily improving over the season and Patrick Mellea has a good shot at the individual title. The group of women we are sending will certainly be our best chance at reaching the pre-season goal."
The championships will be held at the Panorama Farms Course in Charlottesville, Va. The men's 8K race will take place at 10 a.m. EST and the women will follow with a 6K race at 11 a.m.
The women are currently ranked 28th in the nation, second in the Northeast Region and tied for first in New England. The men are ranked tenth in the Northeast Region and fourth in New England.
Post-season action continues for both teams with the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Nov. 10 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women look to defend their Northeast Region title and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships held on Nov. 19.
