Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Women's Hockey East named Boston College freshman forward Allie Thunstrom (Maplewood, Minn.) the league's Rookie of the Month for December on Wednesday. The rookie, who leads the Eagles in five different categories, notched three goals in four games.
Thunstrom scored a power play goal in a 4-2 loss to league-leading Connecticut while also taking a career-high seven shots. After being shutout at Providence, she scored a goal in each of the next two games, including Boston College's lone goal against fifth-ranked Dartmouth in Hanover on December 31. As she has all season long, the freshman stayed out of the penalty box, being whistled only once for a two-minute minor.
Thunstrom leads the team in goals (13), short-handed goals (2) and game-winning goals (3), along with shots and shot percentage.
The Minnesota native and 2006 Ms. Hockey recipient received the Hockey East Player of the Week earlier this season on November 7.
Boston College (11-5-1, 6-3-0) will return to Conte Forum for the first time in over a month to host St. Lawrence on Friday and Clarkson on Saturday. Both games begin at 2:00 p.m.
