Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Women's Hockey East awarded freshman Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio) the league's TPS Player of the Week Monday afternoon after she buried two goals and assisted on three more during the ninth-ranked Eagles' two-game sweep of Vermont and Maine over the weekend.
Stack's five points last weekend gives her 37 points for the season to lead Hockey East and for the nation's third-best total for a rookie. The Ohio native also extended her nine-game streak of at least one point. Over that span, Stack has put together six multi-point games.
During Saturday's game against Vermont, Stack recorded two assists. The first helper came on sophomore Meghan Fardelmann's shorthanded goal in the first period, while the second assist helped notch junior Lindsay Wright's goal in the second period to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Boston College went on to win, 4-1.
Stack got off eight shots on goal the next day against Maine and netted the Eagles' fifth and sixth goals of the afternoon. For the second straight day, Stack helped set up a Wright goal in the second period. The freshman finished the 6-0 Eagle victory with two goals and one assist.
After this weekend, Stack became the first Eagle to tally at least 37 points in a season since Erin Magee did as a senior for the 1998-99 season (41 points). Stack currently sits tied for 10th-place in the Boston College record books for the most points in a season--a category which Magee leads with 64 points recorded in 1996.
Boston College (18-6-2, 12-4-0) returns to the ice on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Durham, N.H. for the rubber match of the season series with the University of New Hampshire. UNH currently sits second behind the Eagles in the league standings by three points.
