Home games vs. defending ACC champion Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Florida State and Miami highlight the 2007 Boston College football schedule, which was released Wednesday. In addition, the Eagles will resume their series with Notre Dame with an Oct. 13 appearance in South Bend and also face tough road tests at Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Clemson.
"This is one of the most attractive and challenging schedules in our football program's history," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo says. "Our team will be facing some very tough competition at home and on the road. With a veteran team returning and a new coaching staff on board, it should be an extremely exciting season for our fans."
The Eagles will waste no time in getting down to business. Wake Forest, coming off an ACC championship and Orange Bowl appearance, will visit Alumni Stadium for the home opener on September 1. The following week, former BC Head Coach Tom O'Brien will bring his North Carolina State Wolfpack team to Chestnut Hill. A week later, the Eagles will travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech for the first time as an ACC opponent.
On Sept. 22, the Eagles will play host to Army to begin a string of three consecutive home games that includes Massachusetts (Parents' Weekend, Sept. 29) and Bowling Green (Oct. 6). On Oct. 13, the Eagles will travel to Notre Dame as part of a four-year series with the Fighting Irish. Following an open date, the Eagles will travel to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in a Thursday night prime-time ESPN game. The following week, the Florida State Seminoles return to Alumni Stadium. After back-to-back ACC road games at Maryland and Clemson, BC returns home for the season finale vs. the Miami Hurricanes on Nov. 24.
The Eagles will enter the 2007 season in the hunt for an unprecedented ninth consecutive bowl game and eighth consecutive bowl win. The 2006 Eagles finished with a 10-3 overall record and ranked 20th by both major polls. First-team All-ACC quarterback Matt Ryan heads into his senior season, the first for new head coach Jeff Jagodzinski.
