Coral Gables, Florida - Despite 26 points, eight rebounds and five assists from Boston College center Kathrin Ress, the Eagles fell to ACC foe, Miami, 83-68, at the BankUnited Center.
Ress scored 14 second half points but could not get the Eagles to overcome the 11-point halftime lead Miami held.
The Eagles found themselves down, 37-26, at the half as Miami came out firing from long range. The Hurricanes hit five three-pointers in the first half, three by junior Albrey Grimsley and two by junior Maurita Reid.
Grimsley's two consecutive three's gave the Hurricanes a 19-15 lead. The Hurricanes took the 11-point lead into the locker room when Reid hit her second three with less than a minute to play. Miami shot 50 percent from the floor, while Boston College finished the half at 31 percent. Twelve first half turnovers also did not help the Eagles cause.
A 10-2 run to start the second half helped Boston College get back into the game, 39-36. The Hurricanes stopped the run with five straight points sparked by a traditional three-point play by Charmaine Clark.
Ress hit a three-pointer from the top of the key at 12:51 in the half and the Eagles were down by three, 50-47. The Hurricanes responded with a traditional three-point play by Renee Taylor and the Eagles were down six. BC cut it to four points at 4:30 in the half when Laura Lokitis stole the ball and went the length of the floor for a bucket.
Boston College never got closer as turnovers and the play of Taylor prevented the Eagles from mounting a comeback.
Taylor finished with 26 points, while Clark added 20 points and Maurita Reid notched 15 in the win.
Besides Ress for the Eagles, freshman Ayla Brown added 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Eagles return home on Sunday, January 21 to host ACC foe Clemson at Conte Forum at 2 p.m.
