Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Eagle sophomore forward Meghan Fardelmann (Lansing, KS) picked up the Hockey East Player of the Week as announced by the league Tuesday evening. In three games against league opponents, Fardelmann notched five goals and four assists to lead the eighth-ranked Eagles to a 3-0 week.
Fardelmann sparked her three-game streak of multi-point games last Tuesday at home against Northeastern by potting two goals in less than two minutes to open the second period. She opened up a game that was only 1-0 after one frame and which ended in a 4-1 Boston College victory.
The Kansan continued her dominant play over the weekend in Burlington against the Catamounts, tallying three goals and four assists in BC's 7-0 and 5-0 whitewashes of UVM. Fardelmann put up a goal in each of the three games, and helped the Eagles earn six points, leaping into a tie for first place in Hockey East.
This is the first award this season for Fardelmann who is fourth on the team with 14-7--21. She joins freshmen Molly Schaus and Allie Thunstrom as Eagles receiving the league's Player of the Week in 2006-07.
Boston College (15-5-2, 8-3-0) plays a home-and-home series with B-line foe Boston University this weekend. The Terriers host the Eagles at Walter Brown Arena for a 7 p.m. face-off Friday night and then both teams move down the street for a 4 p.m. start time on Saturday in Conte Forum.
