Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Junior co-captain Deborah Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) helped her Boston College women's hockey team vault back into the rankings in the eighth spot this week and USCHO rewarded the Eagle for her effort with the Offensive Player of the Week. Spillane tallied two goals and two assists in two games over the weekend to lift the Eagles (13-5-2) over Clarkson and tie sixth-ranked St. Lawrence.
At the end of the first period against St. Lawrence on Friday, Spillane evened the score at 1-1 with her seventh goal of the season. Her goal swung momentum into Boston College's favor as the Eagles surged for three goals in the second stanza. The next day in a 5-0 shutout of Clarkson, Spillane notched the third Boston College goal and helped set up the second and fifth tallies attributed to line mates Becky Zavisza and Allie Thunstrom.
The junior was the Eagles' leading scorer her first two years at the Heights, but an injury early in the season has led to her slower start this year with 14 points. Last year, Spillane finished with 35 points, including 17 goals and 18 assists.
Boston College travels to Burlington this weekend to face Vermont for a two-game set. Friday's face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. and Saturday's game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
