Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sophomore Benn Ferriero registered a goal and an assist and junior Dan Bertram tallied two assists to lead seventh-ranked Boston College to a 4-1 Hockey East victory over Merrimack before 3,938 fans in Kelley Rink.
The host Eagles (11-6-1, 8-4-1 Hockey East) scored twice in the opening period and once in the middle frame to claim a three-goal lead. The teams traded third-period scores for the 4-1 final.
Senior Joe Rooney opened the scoring with his third goal in as many games at 5:55 of the first period. Junior Brian O'Hanley and sophomore Nathan Gerbe each recorded power-play goals for a three-goal lead after two periods.
Carmen Posteraro got the visiting Warriors on the scoreboard at 12:32 of the final frame, beating BC goalie Cory Schneider (21 saves) on a breakaway.
Ferriero tallied his eighth goal of the season with one minute left to play.
Merrimack (3-15-2, 3-10-0 HE) outshot BC, 22-21, despite the Eagles' 8-2 edge in the second period. Goalie Patrick Watson made 17 saves.
BC and Merrimack will conclude the conference regular-season series on Friday in North Andover. Game time is 7 p.m.
Game Notes: BC's victory extended the team's home unbeaten streak to 17 games against Merrimack ... Joe Rooney has now registered 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists), equaling his career high set in 2004-05 ... Dan Bertram centered BC's second line in his first game since earning a gold medal with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships. With two assists, Bertram recorded his 11th career multiple-point performance and second of the 2006-07 season ... Benn Ferriero's two-point outing marked his fifth multiple-point game this season and 12th of his career ... Brian O'Hanley's power-play goal was his first goal of the season ...
