New Haven, Conn. - BC's No. 1 ranked Coed Sailing Team competed in the first major collegiate regatta of the season this past weekend at Yale.
The field of 23 teams at the Harry Anderson Regatta at Yale included 13 of the nations top-20 ranked teams.
Day one of the event saw a heavy breeze from the remnants of Tropical Storm Ernesto. With just four races completed before racing was called for the day, the Eagles found themselves in 14th place, 37 points off the lead.
The final day of the regatta brought more moderate conditions. Sophomore Adam Roberts and senior Aly Whitehead began the day with an 11th-place finish, but each turned in first-place finishes in their second race of the day.
Sophomores Andrew Schneider and Brian Kamilar scored a second and a third in their first set of the day, to give BC added momentum.
Over the next seven races, the Eagles scored 16 points and quickly climbed to the top of the leaderboard. Kamilar and Schneider finished off the event with a 12th-place finish, but by then, the regatta was locked up and the Eagles went on to win the first major event of the season by an impressive 23 points.
The Eagles' coed and women's teams compete next weekend at Dartmouth and MIT at 9:30 a.m.
