Men's Hockey Chosen First In Hockey East Preseason Poll

Boston College has been chosen as the preseason favorite to win the league regular-season title, according to the Hockey East Coaches' Poll released at the annual media day held at TD Banknorth Garden on Tuesday.
BC earned eight first-place votes and a total of 89 points. Boston University was picked second with 78 points, just three points ahead of Maine, which received two first-place votes. New Hampshire and Vermont rounded out the top five selections.
The announcement marks the seventh time in the last nine seasons that the Eagles have been selected as the preseason favorite to win the conference crown.
Boston College posted a 17-8-2 record in Hockey East play in 2005-06. The Eagles finished tied with Maine for second place in last season's standings.
The Eagles' 2006-07 season gets underway on Oct. 7 with an exhibition contest against St. Thomas. The team's 36-game regular-season slate begins with a home game against conference foe Northeastern on Oct. 10.
