The Boston College men's hockey team earned a share of the preseason No. 1 national ranking with Wisconsin, according to the USCHO.com/CSTV poll released on Monday.
Both BC and Wisconsin collected 688 total points to finish in a first-place tie. BC earned 10 first-place votes, while Wisconsin led all teams with 17 first-place votes.
Minnesota, Boston University and Michigan State rounded out the top five in the preseason poll.
Boston College enters the 2006-07 season on the heels of its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament's Frozen Four in the last nine years. The Eagles return 19 lettermen from last year's 26-win club.
The two teams picked to finish atop the poll will meet in late October as BC opens the road portion of its schedule with two games against Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.(Oct. 27 and 28). The games against the Badgers will represent a rematch of last season's national championship game.
The USCHO.com/CSTV Networks Poll consists of 40 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 12 beat writers from across the country. The poll, published weekly by the Associated Press, is a joint production of USCHO.com, which provides in-depth coverage of college sports, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer and others, and CSTV Networks, Inc., the only digital media company dedicated solely to college sports.
CSTV operates a 24-hour college sports cable network, also available via DISH and DirecTV satellite as well as CSTV.com, ranked in the Top 10 leading sports websites.
The Eagles' season gets underway on Oct. 7 with an exhibition contest against St. Thomas. The team's 36-game regular-season slate begins with a home game against conference foe Northeastern on Oct. 10.
