Newton, Mass.--Dartmouth fell victim to the Boston College field hockey team's third-straight win Sunday afternoon at the Newton Campus Field, 5-1. Senior captain Lauren Parks registered two goals in the first half, and three goals from three different Eagles put the game away in the second half. The win gives Boston College a 2-0 weekend and an 8-2 overall record, while the loss drops Dartmouth to 1-5.
Parks started the scoring at 14:31 by taking a direct penalty corner shot and hammering it into the cage. Sophomore Katie Quaglia and junior Crystal Frates earned the assists. Eight minutes later, Parks struck again on a penalty corner from the top of the circle off a Quaglia feed. The half ended with the 2-0 Eagles lead. Boston College outshot Dartmouth by a 10-7 margin in the first 35 minutes.
The Eagles offense sparked early in the second half. Frates took a loose rebound in front of the net and knocked it past Big Green netminder Ashley Heist for her seventh goal on the season just 30 seconds into the second stanza. Sophomore Bob Dirks followed suit a minute and a half later on another loose ball. At 49:31, freshman Ayelen Peralta sent a pass into the circle from the right side which found junior Caitlyn Young. Young tallied the goal to put Boston College up 5-0.
The Big Green avoided the shutout with 15 minutes remaining in the match when Allison Weinstock dove to her right, stabbed at a loose ball, and put the ball past Eagles sophomore goalkeeper Julia Berkowitz.
Berkowitz stopped six shots in the game while allowing just the one goal. Heist made seven saves before Jordan Sedlacek replaced her with 21:29 remaining. Sedlacek made one save and held Boston College scoreless while she was in goal.
"Lauren is a leader, a great leader," says Head Coach Ainslee Lamb on her captain's two goals. "Today she had the opportunity to lead with her goal-scoring. She deserves the accolades, but she doesn't need them. Lauren just wants her team to win."
Boston College will return to the field next Saturday in Durham, N.C. against Duke for another ACC match-up. The game will kick-off a three-game road trip for the Eagles spanning five days.
