Volleyball Downs Miami in ACC Opener

Coral Gables, Fla. - Fresh off of their win over Rhode Island, the Eagles carried their momentum to Florida as they defeated the University of Miami in a five game thriller last night. The two teams exchanged games with the Hurricanes taking games two and four and BC winning games one, three, and the most important game five.
In game one, the Eagles jumped out to early leads of 10-6 and 14-10 but Miami was able to keep it close as they cut the deficit to 17-16 halfway through the contest. Leading by three late in the game, BC would make a run winning four consecutive points and holding off Miami to take game one 30-24.
Trailing 16-14 in game two, the Eagles could not stay with the Hurricanes as they would pull away for a 30-25 victory. BC, however, would bounce right back as they jumped on the Hurricanes quickly in game three and never looked back winning 30-22.
Game four would be a battle as the two teams see sawed back and forth exchanging leads. Serving at 29-27, the Eagles could not close Miami out as the Hurricanes would rattle off four consecutive points to take a tough 31-29 game four win.
Having already lost some difficult five-game matches this season, BC would not let this one slip away. With the game knotted at seven, the Eagles would win eight out of the next 10 points to close out Miami 15-9 making them 1-0 in ACC action.
Four different Eagles recorded double-digits in kills, with senior Dorota Niemczewska leading the way with 17. Sophomore setter Brittany Pierpont was again impressive tallying a match high 55 assists.
Miami was led by senior right side hitter Frannie Savage who had a match high 22 kills, while also adding eight digs. Senior setter Jill Robinson also had a solid performance registering 47 assists.
The Eagles return to action quickly as they take on Florida State, September 24 at 1:00 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla.
