Women's Ice Hockey Picked 10th In USCHO Preseason Poll

Chestnut Hill, Mass.--The U.S. College Hockey Online national preseason poll released earlier this week picked the Boston College women's ice hockey team to finish 10th in the nation for the upcoming 2006-07 season. The Eagles finished the 2005-06 season with a program-best 20-11-4 overall record and ranked 10th in the final USCHO poll.
Reigning national champion Wisconsin (36-4-1) headlines the poll garnering 12 first place votes and the number one ranking. Hockey East champion New Hampshire (33-3-1) follows in second place and with one first place vote. Minnesota (29-11-1), St. Lawrence (31-5-2) and Mercyhurst (23-8-6) round out the top five.
Six New England teams received votes in the division I poll--New Hampshire (second), Dartmouth (sixth), Harvard (seventh), Boston College (10th), Brown (received votes) and Providence (received votes).
The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey League led all conferences with four of its teams in the top 10. Three Western College Hockey Association teams and two Hockey East Conference teams are ranked while fifth-ranked Mercyhurst represents College Hockey America in the poll.
USCHO also announced its women's broadcast schedule, which includes three Boston College games as the Women's Game of the Week. The selected games are against Boston University on November 4, against Wayne State on November 25, and the last game of the regular season against Maine on February 23. All three will be played in Chestnut Hill. The live audio feed can be accessed through the USCHO women's web site.
The Boston College women's ice hockey program opens up the season on Friday, September 29 in Troy, N.Y. against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
