Pete Hughes, who served the last eight years as Boston College's head baseball coach, has resigned his position at Boston College. Hughes has accepted the head baseball coaching position at Virginia Tech University.
In his eight years at BC, Hughes recorded a 250-181-2 record. He led BC to five Big East Tournament appearances in seven seasons in the conference. The Eagles won a school-record 37 victories in 2005.
Hughes earned Big East, New England and ABCA Division I Northeast Region Coach of the Year honors in 2000. The Brockton, Mass., native led the 2000 Eagles to a 35-20 record. The program earned its first berth in the Big East Tournament since 1991.
Hughes also gained Big East Coach of the Year honors in 2002. Freshman Chris Lambert became the first pitcher in league history to earn both the Big East Rookie and Pitcher of the Year awards in the same season.
Hughes captured New England Coach of the Year honors in 2005.
Prior to his stint at Boston College, Hughes spent two seasons as the head coach at Trinity (Texas) University. There he posted a 52-30 mark, leading the Tigers to a then-school record 33 wins in 1998.
