Hockey Holds Annual Pike's Peak Banquet

Chris Collins and Cory Schneider shared the team's most valuable player honor to highlight the 57th Annual Pike's Peak Hockey Club Banquet. The dinner was held at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, Mass. on Sunday, April 23.
The most valuable player award in named in honor of Norman F. Dailey, the goaltender on BC's 1949 national championship team.
Senior captain Peter Harrold and junior forward Brian Boyle shared the John "Snooks" Kelley Memorial Award as the individuals who best typify Boston College hockey. Kelley was the legendary BC manager, player and coach.
Senior forward Stephen Gionta earned the William J. Flynn Coaches Award. Flynn was a former BC student-athlete, faculty member, coach and director of athletics.
Junior forward Joe Rooney received the James E. Tiernan Award as the team's most improved player. Tiernan was the most valuable player in the 1956 Beanpot.
Forward Benn Ferriero and defenseman Brett Motherwell shared the Bernie Burke Outstanding Freshman Award, named in honor of the former BC goalie and long-time freshman coach.
Among the presenters were three former BC players: Lee Blossom '83, Chris Masters '99 and Rob Riley '78.
The Pike's Peak Hockey Club, led by president John Hughes '70, is the program's booster organization. BC also recognized the 25th anniversary team of 1980-81 and the 50th anniversary team of 1955-56. Paul Hammer represented the 1981 team. Members of the 1955-56 anniversary team who attended Sunday's banquet were Ed Carroll, Frank Quinn and Paul Carey.
Fr. Jack Harrington '79 delivered the invocation and Fr. Tony Penna `70 delivered the benediction.
Boston College finished its 2005-06 season with a 26-13-3 record. The Eagles advanced to the Frozen Four - its sixth Frozen Four appearance in the last nine years - and fell to Wisconsin in the national championship game.
Award-winner information:
Chris Collins, a first-team All-America selection, Hobey Baker Award finalist and 2005-06 Hockey East Player of the Year, played in all 42 games and tallied a team-high 63 points - 34 goals and 29 assists.
Cory Schneider, the Hockey East Goaltending Champion and also a first-team All-America honoree, played in 39 games and posted a 2.11 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. He established school single-season records for saves (1,088) and shutouts (eight) in 2005-06.
Peter Harrold, a history major, was also presented with the Academic Excellence Award . Harrold captured Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman honor and was a first-team All-America pick in 2005-06. He played in all 42 games during his senior campaign and finished with a career-high 30 points - seven goals and 23 assists.
Brian Boyle garnered first-team All-Hockey East honors and was a second-team All-America choice in his junior season. He played in all 42 games this season and posted 52 points - 22 goals and a team-high 30 assists.
Stephen Gionta registered a career-high 32 points - 11 goals and 21 assists - in 39 games this season. He finished his career with 90 points - 33 goals and 57 assists - in 151 games.
Joe Rooney tallied 18 points on five goals and 13 assists in 42 games this season. He earned NCAA Northeast Regional All-Tournament team honors after recording a career-high four points - two shorthanded goals and two assists - in the team's NCAA Tournament quarterfinal-round victory over Boston University.
Benn Ferriero and Brett Motherwell were each Hockey East All-Rookie team selections in 2005-06. Ferriero played in all 42 games and tallied 25 points - 16 goals and nine assists. His 16 goals ranked third on the team. Motherwell, who earned NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team honors, played in 39 games during his freshman season and posted 23 points - four goals and 19 assists.
