Four Women's Ice Hockey Players Earn Hockey East Awards

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College sophomore Deborah Spillane repeated as a Second-Team All Hockey East selection while classmate Sarah Feldman earned her first spot on the Hockey East Second-Team. Freshmen Maggie Taverna and Becky Zavisza both were named to the 2005-06 ITECH All-Rookie Team. Taverna, one of two unanimous All-Rookie selections, was also named to the Second-Team. She was the only rookie to be named to an All-Star team this year.
Spillane, who led the Eagles in points this year with 17 goals and 17 assists for 34 points, was also named to the Second-Team All Hockey East as a freshman when she also led the Eagles in scoring. Spillane was named a Hockey East Player of the Week twice, Hockey East Player of the Month in October and was also named to the Hockey East honor roll three times. Spillane earned the Beanpot MVP award in the program's first title and was named the USCHO Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 20. Feldman and Zavisza were both named to the Hockey East honor roll a team-high six times this year. Zavisza also was the Hockey East Rookie of the Month twice and was named to the Preseason All-USCHO Rookie team.
Taverna who ranked fifth in points with 18 behind Spillane, Feldman (31) and Zavisza (27) at the end of the regular season, led all defenseman on BC's squad with seven goals and 11 assists.
Boston College is currently ranked ninth in the USCHO.com poll. The Eagles won their first Hockey East tournament game on Saturday as they defeated defending champion Providence by a score of 3-1. They return to action on Sunday, March 5, as they take on regular-season champion New Hampshire in the finals at 1 p.m.
