Women's Lacrosse Defeats Stony Brook, 11-8

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Boston College freshman Emily Hannigan tallied her second straight three-goal game as she led the Eagles in goals scored against Stony Brook University. The Eagles topped the Seawolves, 11-8, as they won their second straight game. Five different Eagles scored two or more points in the win. Hannigan continues to lead the Eagles in goals scored with 11 on the season. The Eagles now stand at 3-3 overall and 0-2 in ACC action.
Junior Katherine Wagoner opened up scoring for the Eagles with 28:12 left in the half as BC took an early 1-0 lead. The scoring continued to go back and forth for the rest of the half as both teams found each other's net. After freshman Jenna McCabe scored with 14:43 left, the Eagles went on a 4-1 run to end the half.
The Eagles' leading scorer Elizabeth Kadison notched her first point of the game at 12:55 on an unassisted goal. Hannigan notched her first goal of the game at 8:10 while McCabe notched her second goal of the afternoon six minutes later. Stony Brook's Carlee Buck scored with two seconds left in the half as the Eagles entered halftime with a 6-4 lead.
Stony Brook struck first in the second half to bring the game within one goal but Hannigan scored two goals within two minutes to increase the Eagles lead back to three. Freshman Maura Mahoney notched a goal at 23:30 as the Eagle's controlled the pace of the game. Stony Brook scored three more goals for the remainder of the half but was unable to come within more than two goals for the rest of the game.
Senior Lizette Blohm and freshman Margot Spatola both notched goals before the end of the game as they took the win, 11-8.
Freshman Katie Monaghan started the game in goal made 13 saves in the game, including 10 in the second half as she recorded the win.
The Eagles host Fairfield University for their first home game of the season on March 22 at 3 p.m.
