BOSTON - Sophomore defenseman Mike Brennan scored his first goal of the season and goalie Cory Schneider recorded 37 saves as Boston College fell to Boston University, 2-1, in overtime in the Hockey East Tournament championship before 16,433 fans in TD Banknorth Garden.
BU freshman forward Brandon Yip scored the game-winning goal at 14:22 for the Terriers, who captured their first Hockey East title since 1997.
Brennan gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 3:24 of the first period. Junior Joe Rooney assisted on the play.
BU freshman John McCarthy evened the score 1-1 at 14:30 of the second period.
BC, which was outshot by the top-seeded Terriers in each of the first three periods, fired 10 shots on BU sophomore goalie John Curry during the overtime session.
Curry finished with 29 saves in 74:22.
Schneider, who finished the four-game league tournament with a 1.59 goals against average and a .960 save percentage, earned All-Tournament Team honors. Junior forward Brian Boyle and senior defenseman Peter Harrold joined Schneider on the All-Tournament Team.
