Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sophomore Deborah Spillane was named the Hockey East's Player of the Week for the second time this season as she led the Eagles to the program's first ever Beanpot title last Tuesday. Senior goalie, Alison Quandt earned her second Defensive Player of the Week honor, stopping 36 of 39 shots faced, as the Eagles swept the No. 9 Providence Friars in an away and home series this weekend as announced by the league office on Monday.
Spillane notched both goals for the Eagles in their win over Harvard in the Beanpot Championship on Tuesday night as she took home MVP honors for the tournament. Quandt earned the 2006 Bertagna Award at the Beanpot which is given annually to the tournament's top goaltender after shutting out Harvard, 2-0.
Also making the Hockey East honor roll this week was sophomore Sarah Feldman for the fifth time this season. Feldman scored three points for the Eagles as they defeated Providence, 4-1, on Saturday. Feldman is second in points on the Eagles with 29 this season.
Appearing on the honor roll for the first time this season is senior Jill McInnis. McInnis scored a goal in both games of an Eagle sweep of the Friars this weekend.
Freshman Meghan Fardelmann earned her third Honor Roll nod this season as she tallied four points this week including a goal and two assists over the Eagle's sweep of Providence. Classmate Becky Zavisza was named to the Honor Roll for a team-high sixth time while notching a goal and an assist in both games against the Friars.
The Eagles have now gone 5-0 over the past two weeks and earned their second appearance in the National polls this week. The USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll ranked Boston College at the No. 10 spot for the first time since Nov. 8 when the team was ranked 10th after topping then No. 5 New Hampshire.
BC remains in second place in the Hockey East standings behind the University of New Hampshire. The Eagles now stand at 18-9-4 and 15-3-1 in Hockey East play. The team will finish out the regular season at Maine next weekend
